THE Areas Youth Trust Foundation (AYTF) on Friday called on the government to provide adequate security to its citizens and ensure social justice so as to strengthen Nigeria’s Democracy.

Fahad Chikaji-Ahmed, the Founder, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna

He decried the recent attack on communities by the Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast and bandits in the Northwest which had consumed many lives and property.

“The electorate voted their leaders to firstly provide adequate security for lives and property but the reverse has been the case.

“I want to sincerely advise the Federal Government to please look at these issues, take effective steps and bring a lasting solution to insecurity”, he said.

Chikaji-Ahmed also urged the government to recruit and adequately train more security personnel, provide adequate funding, and introduce monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that funds were utilised properly.

He expressed disgust over the incessant rape cases recorded in the past few months, suggesting that laws against rapists should be reviewed and strengthened to ensure that rapists were severely punished.

According to him, long term jail would serve as deterrence to others and reduce the number of people harboring the evil intention of rape in society.

He urged non-governmental organizations and civil society groups to intensify the sensitization campaign against rape, saying that parents must teach their children sex education at an early age. (NAN)
