Demolition of shanties under high tension cables

OFFICIALS of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, ANSPPB, in conjunction with those of Ministry of Environment Beatification and Ecology have pulled down some shanties.
The shanties are located under the high tension cable on kilometre 3 Onitsha/Owerri expressway by Mgbuka, Obosi axis.
Speaking during the demolition exercise, Victor Okpoko, general manager, ANSPPB, commended Governor Willie Obiano for approving the removal of the shanties to safe guard lives and properties of some Ndi Anambra.
He cautioned all recalcitrant developers within the area to desist from rebuilding under the high tension cables for their own safety.
Amaka Ezekwesili, environmental health officer, noted that several notices had been issued to the occupants to vacate the site, even after educating them on dangers of being exposed to high tension cables.
In another development, the ANSPPB visited Ezeuka Street, Ugwuagba, Obosi and also pulled down a building with structural defects.
The builder had erected the structure without obtaining building approval.
