Felix Achibiri, DFC Holdings chief executive officer has congratulated General Muhammadu Buhari, president-elect, over his victory at the March 28, presidential polls and lauds President Goodluck Jonathan and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state, for their roles in maintaining a peaceful co-existence in the country
FELIX Achibiri, chief executive officer, CEO, has praised the role General Abdulsalmi Abubakar, former head of state, played to ensure the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria which was threatened by electoral violence. “We needed men and women of note to rise to the occasion to entrench peace across the land and appeal to the leading candidates that a united and peaceful Nigeria is more important than anyone’s ambition. You made yourself available as always, through your steadfast appeals to the candidates of the major political parties, by leading other notable and well-meaning Nigerians under the auspices of the National Peace Council to steer the country away from violence and disintegration,” Achibiri said in a statement that was made available to Realnews on Friday, April 10.
According to him, “Even when the first peace accord, what is now known as ‘Abuja Accord’ which commits them and their political parties to peaceful electioneering campaigns, peaceful polls and effective management of the outcome of the 2015 elections to ensure that there is no outbreak of violence was not adhered to, you and your notable team appealed to the two main presidential candidates to sign a second peace accord, which you followed through until the election result was announced and until the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan made the historic and soothing call to General Muhammadu Buhari, conceding defeat. The nation has since known peace.”
“Your Excellency, you have been a silent Nation Builder and a lover of democracy. You often rise to the occasion at critical junctures of our national life. Firstly, when you handed over power within a short period on assumption as Military Head of State to a democratically-elected government in 1999. And now also your fatherly and statemanly role in fostering peace in the fiercely contested 2015 Presidential election, which has attracted global commendation and admiration. We pray the good Lord to grant you wisdom and strength as you remain strong and continue to contribute to the peace and prosperity of our Nation and the sub-region,” Achibiri said.
He also congratulated President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for living up to his promise of ensuring a peaceful and credible elections. “Your Excellency, You have shown an uncommon statesmanship and character and your deep love and concern for our great nation by humbly conceding defeat and congratulating General Muhammadu Buhari. You have indeed etched name in the sand of time and in the hall of fame of Nigeria and Africa,” he said.
He also congratulated General Muhammadu Buhari, president-elect, for his resilience, courage and commitment to leading Nigeria despite losing in the last three elections. “You have been magnanimous in victory and shown this by reaching out to your challenger to join you in the critical task of nation building”. In the spirit of the exemplary peace shown by these great men, I appeal to all Nigerians to continue in this culture of peace as we have no other country, but Nigeria,” he said.
