DFID donates ICT facilities to Kaduna schools

THE Department for International Development (DFID) supported Teachers Development Programme (TDP) on Tuesday donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities to Kaduna State Universal Basic Education (UBE) Board.
The DFID, a United Kingdom government department responsible for administering overseas aid, said the gesture would encourage the use of ICT for teaching in public schools.
The Coordinator of the Programme, Mrs Jummai Sarki, said in Kaduna while presenting the facilities to the board described ICT as a powerful tool that allowed students, pupils and teachers to interact efficiently with ease.
The facilities donated included 416 tablet computers, with 47 of them loaded with lesson plans for teachers, 23 mobile projectors, 10 solar panels for rural schools, 23 mini servers, 23 Television boxes and 322 mini amplifiers.
The Executive Chairman of the UBE, Mr Nasiru Umar, described TDP’s gestures as a boost to the state’s quest in deploying ICT in both teaching and learning.
Umar, who was represented by the Board’s Permanent Member 1, Mrs Mary Ambi, reiterated the board’s determination to improving learning outcomes in public schools.
“Our target is to ensure that all our children are computer literate so they can tap from the ICT-driven world and compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
“We are very thankful to TDP for the support in ensuring that our public-school teachers are equipped with ICT skills and improved capacity to deliver quality teaching,” he said.
He urged the education secretaries of the 23 local government areas to ensure that the facilities were put to good use to enable pupils acquire sound education
