A housewife, Fatima Mohammed, on Friday asked a Sharia Court in Minna to dissolve her marriage to Abdulrasheed Ogundipe because there was no food in their house.

“My husband is starving me; there is no food in the food. I want this marriage dissolved,” Mohammed told the court.

She accused her husband of not living up to his responsibilities as the head of the house, and declared that she could no more put up with that behaviour.

“My husband does not provide food in the house and I cannot bear it anymore.

“He also does not perform other responsibilities expected of him as the man of the house.

“That is why I am pleading with this court to help me out of this marriage by ending it,” she said

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogundipe, who was not, was represented by his counsel, Hamza Abdulrahman, who prayed the court to give him time to reconcile the couple.

“I will like the court to give me a little time to settle the two parties.

“I shall sit with the couple and resolve the quarrel; immediately we are through, I shall come to the court and report the outcome of my efforts,” he added.

The presiding judge, Ahmed Bima, granted the counsel’s prayers.

“I hope the couple will resolve their differences and get back together again,” he said.

Bima advised the couple to give peace a chance, adding that marriage required lots of patience, endurance and understanding.

He adjourned the matter to Feb. 22, for report on the outcome of the counsel’s efforts. (NAN)
