Diversify income to achieve financial independence – Expert tells workers
General News
A Bauchi-based Political Scientist, Dr Babayo Sule, has advised workers to diversify their income to achieve financial independence and improved living standards.
He said the call was imperative in view of the high cost-of-living being experienced by Nigerians.
Sule, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Federal University Kashere, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bauchi.
He said the hardship being experienced by Nigerians occasioned by the economic downturn in the country underscored the need for the citizens, especially workers to diversify their incomes.
”With the present predicament in the country workers need to have multiple sources of income to improved their livelihood.
”Workers are more affected by the high rate of inflation as their earnings are fixed, sadly the trend is getting tough on them,” he said.
He, therefore, advised workers to engage in agriculture to improve their financial status as well as contribute to food security and goverment’s economic diversification drive.
”This will be beneficial to them when salary can no longer keep them at work and sustain their lives”.
While lauding some state government’s over the payment of wage award to their workers, Sule advocated people oriented programmes to reduce poverty and enhance wealth creation at the grassroots.
He also urged the electorate to eschew money politics and elect credible people to elective positions, to entrench democratic culture and good governance in the country. (NAN)
