Dogara Emerges Speaker of House of Representatives

Yakubu Dogara from Bauch State has emerged as speaker of the eighth House of Representatives in a keenly contested election with Femi Gbajabiamila of Lagos State
YAKUBU Dogara, a representative from Bauchi State, was elected as speaker of the House of Representatives in a keenly election held on the floor of the House on Tuesday, June 9. He defeated Femi Gbajabiamila, a representative from Lagos State.
Dogara, 47, who was elected to the House on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was picked by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, when he failed to win the support of his party who picked Gbajabiamila ahead of him.
The election of Dogara is seen as a victory for the PDP whose sponsored candidates won in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
