THE Police Command in Jigawa on Thursday warned residents of the state against taking the law into their hands sequel to the arrest of a suspected motorcycle snatcher.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ekot gave the warning in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, DSP Lawan Shi’isu, in Dutse on Thursday.

The warning came againts the backdrop of mob action on a suspected motorcycle snatcher at Badari village on Sept. 1.

Shi’isu said the suspect, a resident of Kayar Makama village in Kunchi Local Government Area of Kano state, was rescued by the police and refered to General Hospital Kazaure for medical attention.

He said the suspect has been discharged from the hospital on Sept. 6.

“On Sept. 1, at about 8:45 p.m., the police received a distress call that mob action had ensued at Bodari along Kazaure road, in Kazaure LGA.

“Upon receipt of the information, police on patrol attached to the Kazaure Division moved to the scene.

“On arrival, one Lawal Hisba of Badori village complained that two unknown persons allegedly used a stick and attacked his 25-year-old son of same address and snatched his motorcycle, as a result of which he sustained injuries on his head.

“However, one of the suspects was attacked by the villagers, who recovered the motorcycle,” he said.

The spokesman alleged that the suspect committed the crime alongside his accomplice now at large, adding that efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.

Meanwhile, the Police arrested a 28-year-old man for alleged robbery.

He said that operatives of the command apprehended the suspect on Aug. 28, over his alledged involvement in robbery.

The suspect, he said, connived with others, now at large, and robbed a security personnel of the Gerawa Group of Companies at Kwanar Kaugama area of Kaugama LGA.
