Double sit-at-home order rocks South-East
metro
By Kennedy Nnamani
TODAY, the sit-at-home order comes from two different declarations – the annual observance and commemoration of the Biafra Remembrance Day and the usual Monday sit-at-home order.
As the Igbos all over the world commemorate the Biafra Remembrance day today, the people in the South East zone also marked this event with total observance of the order.
Consequently, business activities in the zone were shut down, with schools closed and empty streets.
Meanwhile, The Sun newspaper reported on Sunday that the Alaigbo Development Foundation, ADF, has called on Ndigbo to be sensitive to what was happening around them and be ready to defend themselves and Igboland, while taking serious note of the developments around them. This was in support of the sit-at home order to mark the Biafra Remembrance day.
A reliable source from Onitsha confirmed that the order was observed as usual. She explained that she could not go about her normal business and her children could not go to school because of the sit-at-home order.
In the same vein, Clara Egbo, a civil servant, who resides in Aba in Abia state, confirmed that she was at home due to the declaration of the order.
The reports from Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi states said that major streets and markets were deserted. Some of the residents who spoke to Realnews expressed dissatisfaction with this development since the trend is causing more hardship to the people, especially the artisans.
The sit-at-home, order which was ignited by the extradition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, by the federal government has been in effect for almost a year and the order is widely observed in the zone, despite the counter order issued by IPOB cancelling the Monday sit-at-home order.
