THE Police on Tuesday arraigned a 27-year-old driver, Isah Abubakar in a Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Shagari Quarters, Abuja, over alleged criminal trespass and stealing personal items.
Abubakar, of Bmuko Duste, Abuja, is facing a four-count charge, bordering on criminal trespass, theft, intimidation and attempt to commit an offence while causing hurt.
The Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Mr Nwode Onyebuchi of Bmuko Duste, Abuja, reported the matter at Duste Alhaji Police Station on May 29.
Ogada alleged that on May 28, at about 4:30 a.m, the defendant criminally entered into the residence of the complainant located at Bmuko Duste and stole various items.
He listed the stolen items to include a wallet containing cash sum of N3, 000 with various identity cards in it, shoes, and a cell phone.
The prosecutor told the court that when the defendant attempted to steal the phone charger, Onyebuchi woke up and held him down.
He also alleged that the defendant escaped with the items to an unknown destination after beating the complainant and inflicting injury on his body.
Ogada, however, told the court that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police, saying the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348, 288, 397 and 95 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Presiding Judge, Sulyman Ola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N100, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Ola ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, have a reliable means of livelihood and an identity card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
He adjourned the matter till Aug. 16, for hearing. (NAN)
