SOME residents of Kano metropolis have expressed satisfaction with the decrease in the price and availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas.
The residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Kano, that the reduction in the price of the commodity was a relief to consumers.
NAN checks revealed that the price of a 12.5 kg cylinder which used to be sold before at N10,000 or N9,200, now sells for between N7,000 and N8,500 within Kano metropolis.
Also, a 6kg gas cylinder presently goes for N3,792 on average while a kilogram sells for N632 as against N736 to N 740.
Malam Idris Musa, who resides in Hausawa quarters, expressed delight over the development however, said the price of cooking gas at N7,900 was still high.
He called for more efforts by the government to make it affordable to an average Nigerian.
Mrs Yemisi Ade, a consumer, also expressed her joy and prayed for continuous fall in the price of LPG.
Hajiya Aisha Bala, a caterer, said that the price of 12.5kg dropped from N10,000 to N7,900.
According to her, the price of LPG will continue to fall.She prayed for a similar decrease in the price of kerosene and petroleum also.
“We are very happy with the development, because the product is also available, there was no searching for the product from one gas plant to another filling station,” he said.
A gas dealer, Abba Muhammad, said that the reduction in the price of gas showed that petrol prices would crash with time as more marketers entered the market.
Another dealer, Sabo Nasir, explained that the government did not subsidise cooking gas, saying that market forces determined the price.
He said that the drop in the price of cooking gas was a supply-driven phenomenon.(NAN)
