DSS warns against planned protests on Democracy Day

THE Department of State Services, DSS, has issued a warning to the public on the planned protests scheduled to take place on June 12, 2024, which coincides with Democracy Day celebrations.
The protests, allegedly orchestrated by certain individuals and groups, are aimed at inciting violence and undermine public safety and national security.
According to the official DSS X handle @OfficialDSSNG on June 11, 2024,
The DSS noted that while citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves, these freedoms should not be used to compromise public safety and national security.
The Service stated that violent demonstrations are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
Instead, the DSS encourages disgruntled individuals to channel their grievances through appropriate channels and procedures. The Service reaffirms its commitment to protecting the country from harmful acts and maintaining peace in collaboration with other security agencies.
It urged law-abiding citizens to go about their daily activities without fear, and provided contact information for the public to report any concerns.
The Service also felicitates with the government and citizens on the occasion of 25 years of unbroken democracy, calling for continued patriotism, unity, and commitment to building a better Nigeria.
In summary, the DSS warned against planned protests on Democracy Day, emphasizing the need for peaceful expression and warning against violent demonstrations that could compromise public safety and national security.
