Eagles, Black Stars Renew Rivalry

NIGERIA has been drawn against their bitter rivals Ghana in the West African Football Union, WAFU, Cup of Nations scheduled to take place from September 9 to 24 in Ghana. At the draw, which took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, the Super Eagles were drawn in Group A alongside the Black Stars. Other teams in the group are Mali, Guinea, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Mauritania and Guinea Bissau.

Ghana and Nigeria have seven African titles between them, with the Eagles and the Black Stars featuring in the last two World Cups in South Africa (2010) and Brazil (2014). The teams in Group A will play in Takoradi. Teams in Group B will compete in Cape Coast. They are 2015 African champions Ivory Coast, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Benin Republic, with Liberia, Niger, Togo and Cape Verde.

Ayobola Oyeyode, director of competitions, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, represented Nigeria at the ceremony. The tournament is for players playing their trade in their countries.
