Easter: Lagos Assembly Speaker urges Nigerians to remain prayerful, watchful
Politics
MR Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to be watchful and prayerful, especially during the Easter celebration.
Obasa made the plea in his Easter message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Eromosele Ebhomele, in Lagos on Saturday.
The speaker said that there was need for individual and collective resolve to be more security conscious, maintain peace and support the government in its efforts to make Nigeria greater.
Obasa urged Christians to continue to remember the virtues of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for redemption of mankind.
He said these virtues must never be lost in their day-to-day living and should go beyond the celebration of the historical death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Obasa also commended the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the state government for sustaining the peace being enjoyed by residents of the state.
He said: “It is obvious we are facing difficult times, and these times call for drastic measures.
“We have to take a look at the various suggestions and reports available to us on how best to unify the country, engage youths, reduce unemployment and boost the nation’s economy.
“We are aware that Nigeria’s economy was negatively affected by COVID-19, which hit the country in the first quarter of 2020.
“The situation has forced citizens, governments and businesses to adopt new ways of life, part of which may have, among others, been a reason for the increased level of insecurity across the nation.
“In Lagos, however, the residents have remained poised to live in love and harmony.
“The state government has also continued with its determination to ensure a habitable environment for the people and for businesses to thrive, and for this, we deserve commendation,” he said.
The speaker said that the state assembly had also passed bills and motions geared toward a better society and youths engagements.
He said they would never rest on their oars to make people of the state to always sleep with their eyes closed.
According to him, to achieve this, we, as legislators will continue to collaborate with other arms of government and the people.
The speaker said that that state policing was still the right way to go, urging state residents to maintain their resolutions to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of their religious divides. (NAN)
