ROSE Ebenebe, a retired professor in the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has called on parents and guardians to act responsibly toward proper upbringing of their children.

Ebenebe, who made the call at Nibo Awka South, said their upbringing should get beyond attending to their physical needs but most importantly their spiritual wellbeing.

According to the former university don, children are considered gifts from God and need to be properly nurtured to hate evil and shun all negative vices.

Ebenebe said efforts should be made to preach the word of God to them to receive the nature of righteousness that only faith in Jesus Christ could offer them.

She said that it was regrettable that some parents were not available to their children and stressed that efforts should be made to monitor their activities.

The former university don, an evangelist urged the church to be more alive to its responsibilities by preaching the gospel to the people.

Christian Ezeamaku, the principal, Comprehensive Secondary School Nawfia, urged parents to start the education and tutelage of children from cradle to avoid their becoming delinquent.

According to Ezeamaku, teachers should complement efforts of parents at home by effectively monitoring their behaviours in schools.

The principal attributed some delinquent acts to adults, who often corrupt the minors through their wrong attitudes or through the internet.
