UMAR Gonto, Acting Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), has solicited the assistance of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for road maintenance within the housing estates in the Federal Capital Territory.

Gonto made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja by Mrs Maryam Sanusi, Deputy Director/Head of Communication FERMA.

She quoted the FHA boss as making the appeal when he led a delegation of management staff of FHA to FERMA Headquarters on a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Abuja.

Gonto also conveyed the appreciation of the residents of the Estates to FERMA for previous interventions in rehabilitation of roads within the estates.

“Our mission here is to show appreciation to FERMA`s management for the intervention on access roads in the esptates around Abuja, and to strengthen the cooperation that had been existing between FERMA and FHA, “ he said.

Gonto also used the opportunity to call for quick intervention by FERMA on roads in federal housing Estates at Lugbe extension, saying the roads were in deplorable conditions.

He further said that the FHA was ready to cooperate with FERMA in the provision of housing for the agency’s staff members.

The FHA Managing Director said, “As you help us to maintain our roads, we would like to partner with you to provide houses for your staff, “

In his response, Mr Nuruddeen Rafindadi, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FERMA, assured the FHA boss of his agency’s continuous assistance to maintain access roads to Federal Housing Estates in the FCT.

Rafindadi stated that FERMA had in the past intervened on roads in Lugbe, Kado and Gwarimpa Estates by maintaining the access roads, thereby alleviating the difficulties faced by the residents of the estate.

He added that the agency would continue to partner FHA to extend same gesture of maintenance of roads to other FHA Estates and infrastructure.

He, however, said that FERMA’s inability to accede to all the request of FHA was because the agency`s mandate was limited to the federal roads across the nation.

The FERMA boss added that the agency had challenge of funding, which had constrained it from executing all its expected work.

“We have far less fund than we need to meet high expectations of the public. Our main mandate is on federal roads routine maintenance, “ he said. (NAN)
