THERE is no doubt that we are in a season of politics.  A glance at the happenings in all the states of the federation will show that politicians are doing what they know best to do — politicking. It is an era of intense and grandiose plots and counter plots, schemes and manoeuvres by politicians to be in a vantage position to outwit their opponents. It is an era of rapid nocturnal meetings where decisions are taken in one moment and jettison in another, where disagreements are trashed and agreements are hashed.

A look at the political horizon will show that the night of long knives for politicians are here for real. Real and imagined political enemies are marked down for elimination physically or otherwise just to give way to those who want to consolidate power at both the federal and state level. It is indeed the era of hot headed politics. From the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, controlled states, the story is the same – governance has been brought to a halt all because of politics. All the governors have abdicated their government houses and relocated to Abuja to be close to the national offices of the party to keep perpetual vigilance just to make sure that nobody at the party secretariats alters their permutations.

The situation is worse in the PDP were the discord between the governors who want to run for senate position and those already there are clashing. But who will have the upper hand? Realnews cover story for this week entitled: “Clash of Ambition: How Scramble for Elective Posts Tear PDP Apart” provides you all the information you need to know. It was written by Olu Ojewale, our general editor. Enjoy it.
