Editors to Build an N850m Secretariat Complex

THE Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE, the apex body of media practitioners in the country, has a tall dream. That dream is to translate into a secretariat complex to be known as ‘Editors’ Plaza’. To realize the dream, the Guild ‘will host a fund raising dinner at the prestigious Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Through it, the NGE hopes to raise N850 million for for the construction of the secretariat complex. The NGE said politicians, captains of industries, professionals and lovers of the media are billed to attend.

Femi Adesina, president of the Guild and also the managing director of The Sun Newspapers, said that the dinner was long overdue and that the present executive would deliver the project to the Guild before the expiration of his tenure. He enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the Guild on this project. Suleiman Uba Gaya, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Vice President of the Guild, said the details of the event would be unfolded very soon.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit making organization, for the highest strata of journalists who have attained the exalted position of editors in the journalism profession. Since its inception, the Guild is yet to own a befitting secretariat.  It has, over the years, been operating from make-shift offices.

According to Adesina, he and his executives were ‘determined to buck this trend by bequeathing a fitting secretariat to the Guild which will not only serve as a functional office for the Guild but will also be equipped with modern ICT facilities and meeting rooms for the purpose of building the capacities of Nigerian editors.’
