Edo 2024: 114 media organizations meet accreditation deadline

THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that 114 media organizations met the deadline for accreditation for the coverage of the Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC announced that the accredited media organizations have successfully uploaded the details of the 721 personnel to cover the election as reporters, cameramen, engineers for live broadcast and support staff.

He added that the 114 media organisations include newspapers, radio, television and online media groups.

Olumekun assured all accredited groups of unimpeded lawful access to voting and collation locations and that their accreditation tags will be ready ahead of the election.

He appealed to media organisations and observers to abide by their codes of professional ethics, the law and the Commission’s regulations and guidelines in their reportage and observation of the processes and procedures before, during and after the election.

Realnews reports that INEC had recently urged media organisations interested in covering the forthcoming Edo State governorship election to submit their applications and upload the personal details of their personnel ahead of the deadline of Thursday, September 5, 2024.

The Edo State Governorship election, which is one of the off cycle elections in Nigeria has been the focus of several groups due to its political structure.
