AN APC Governorship aspirant in the upcoming Edo election, Mr Dennis Idahosa, has promised to ensure that Local Government Councils in the state enjoy full autonomy, if elected.

Idahosa, who is a member of the House of Representatives, said this during an interactive session with newsmen in Benin on Tuesday.

He regretted that money appropriated to the LGAs in the state were too meager for the enormous task of development at the grassroot.

Idahosa said: “I will ensure that money appropriated to the various LGAs will be used to develop those localities as against what currently obtained.

“They are giving the LGAs stipends to work with, which is not enough to go anywhere.

“This will be discontinued under my watch as governor.”

He also promised to tackle the infrastructure deficit in the state.

“I believe that as a young man, I will be able to transform the state.

“The current government promised to do a lot of things.

“Precisely, Gov. Godwin Obaseki promised to give my constituency ‘Gelegele’ seaport, but nothing is on ground.

“He also promised to build 18 mini stadiums across the LGAs but as we speak, nothing has been done.

“I know that with what I have done in my Federal Constituency of Ovia North East and Ovia South West in the last 7 years, I will get the governorship ticket,” Idahosa said.

He further promised to respect the freedom of information, protect the territorial integrity of the state and respect traditional rulers and institutions.

He said: “I will use my office as a governor to guarantee loans for women to grow their businesses as well as review the Certificate-of-Occupancy issued by the present administration in the state.

“With the security vote, I will collaborate with all the security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property as well as secure the land for our parents to farm.

“I will leverage foreign investors to create jobs for our dear state.

“The government alone cannot create jobs but we will not see the appointment of SSAs and SAs as job creation.”

Idahosa said that he was sure of support from his party members, pointing out that the allegation of fraud against him was false. (NAN)
