Edo decides: EDOCSO urges security agencies to be neutral
Politics
THE Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO) has called on security agencies deployed for the Sept. 21 governorship election to remain neutral before, during, and after the election.
The group made this call during a rally at the State Police Command headquarters and the Department of State Services (DSS) office on Friday in Benin.
Comrade Omobude Agho, Coordinator General of EDOCSO, emphasized the importance of neutrality.
Agho stated that the police and other security agencies must not be used by one political party to intimidate others.
He warned that such actions would discourage potential voters from exercising their franchise on election day.
Agho also referenced the recent incident at the Benin airport where a police officer was shot dead, highlighting the need for peace during the election.
He urged the police to play by the rules and ensure a peaceful environment for the election.
In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Nemi Edwin-Iwo assured the group that the police would remain neutral.
Edwin-Iwo cited his experience conducting elections in other states without issues.
“We have conducted elections in many states.
“I have conducted elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa, and the records are there. We are very neutral and came out without blemish.”he said
He appealed to EDOCSO to help sensitize the public to come out and vote, emphasizing that the police would only arrest those involved in crimes. (NAN)
