AHEAD of the Saturday’s governorship election in Edo, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), on Thursday called on the people to go out and vote for the candidate of their choice without fear of harassment.
Speaking with newsmen in Benin, Mr Agbo Major, the National Publicity Secretary of IPAC, said the members were in the state to sensitise the people to the need for a peaceful election.
“We are using this medium to call on the people to go out and vote for the candidate of their choice without fear of intimidation.
“We have moved around the streets of Benin, gave out flyers to the people on the need for a peaceful election.
“All we want is a peaceful Edo state that will make progress after the election,” he said.
According to him, if you are outside Edo, you will think that Edo is at war but since we arrived here, we found out that the people are peaceful but resolute to vote in free and fair environment.
On his part, the IPAC Secretary-General, Mr Yusuf Dantele, said the council had gone round the major streets of Benin to sensitise and educate the people to the need for peaceful election in the state.
Dantele, however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security personnel deployed for the election to remain neutral.
