THE Edo Government on Monday urged new members of the State Executive Council to support Gov. Godwin Obaseki in ensuring security and good welfare of citizens of the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Osarodion Ogie, gave the advice at a one-day Retreat for Edo Council Members titled: “Moving Edo State Forward’’, held at Government House in Benin.

He said the aim of having new executive members was to help the governor in the actualisation of his campaign promises to the people of the state.

Ogie, also Chairman of the event, said the workshop was to prepare the newly-appointed executive members for the task of governance, geared toward the betterment of the state.

“We must help the governor to succeed. The security and welfare of the people are the primary purpose of government and the executive members must help the governor to actualise this,’’ he said.

He urged the new executive members who include commissioners and special advisers to build synergy; spirit of cooperation; and have listening ears to their subordinates.

In a lecture titled: “Application of Civil Service Rules and Procedures of Effective Service Delivery’’, the former Head of Service, Mrs Gladys Idahor, tasked the participants on effective service delivery, building trust in people and transparency in decision making process.

Idahor said the responsibilities of commissioners were to see to the success of the ministry they head and not to be at logger heads with their permanent secretaries.

Other lectures lined up for the event are: “Understanding the Financial Instruction’’; “Fiscal Responsibility Law As A Veritable Tool For Good Governance ’’; “Anti-Corruption: An Overview of the Edo Procurement Law and Purposeful Leadership’’; and “A Panacea for Effective Service Delivery”. (NAN)
