EDO Government says it will soon commission the abandoned multi-million naira Universal Basic Education’s (UBE) Special Vocational School, Uzebba in Owan West Local Government of the state.

Mr Augustine Igbodaro, Board Secretary, Technical Vocational Education and Training in the state Ministry of Education made this known to the News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin.

Ighodaro told NAN that the school completed in 2018 had not been abandoned but built to improve technical education in the state.

He said that the school, now overgrown with weeds, would soon be opened.

” It’s not abandoned, the state government will soon move its Technical Vocational Education and Training centre to that part of the state.

“It will be a major centre for vocational education in the state,” he said.

Governor Godwin Obaseki had assured in June the state government readiness to sustain investment in technical and vocational education to drive the state’s industrial growth.

A visit by NAN to the school showed that the roof to one of the blocks of classrooms had been blown open by storm while the entire premises had been taken over by weeds.

Mr Dada Okun, a retired Headmaster of Obi Primary School, Uzebba, appealed to the state government to commission the school built four years ago.

Okun wondered why a multimillion naira project of such magnitude would be allowed to lie fallow.

He said the project was conceived to provide a second chance for dropouts and for those not interested in conventional education but wondered why the commissioning would be delayed.

“Uzebba community appeals to the state government to rehabilitate and open the centre for use to provide equal opportunities to youths in and outside the local council area,” he said.( NAN)
