THE Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo, on Monday, staged a walk to sensitise the public towards peaceful conduct during the governorship election in the state.

The walk, which started at the command headquarters in Blessed Avenue, passed through Country Home Road, Sapele Road, and Limit Road, before returning to the headquarters.

Speaking shortly before the walk, Mr Gbenga Agun, the NSCDC Commandant,  said that the walk was to encourage the electorate to embrace peace during the election.

“We want to assure the people of Edo that we are ready to work with all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election.

“We say no to brutality, violence, intimidation, terrorism, hooliganism, snatching of ballot boxes, and any form of lawlessness.

“We say yes to peace, non-violence, civility, respectfulness, and lawfulness,” he said.

Agun said that the command was committed to providing a secure environment for voters to exercise their franchise without being molested or intimidated.

“We want to assure the people that we will work with INEC and other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free election,” he said.
