THE Bayelsa Government says it has trained no fewer than 3, 000 teachers in public secondary and primary schools in the state since the inception of Gov. Seriake Dickson’s administration six years ago.

Mr Jonathan Oboebitei, the state Commissioner for Education, said this in Yenagoa on Thursday at the on-going inter-ministerial briefing to mark the six years of Dickson in office.

The briefing tagged, “Restoration Government at Six: Our Score Card in Focus”, began on Jan. 22.

Presenting his ministry’s score-card, Oboebitei said the state government had also constructed more than 400 headmasters’ quarters as part of effort to ensure qualitative education for the people.

“We have also built and renovated a total of 413 classroom blocks in primary schools across the state.

“We have spent more than one billion naira as counterpart funding to attract Federal Government’s support programmes in the education sector.

“More than 160 secondary schools have been renovated so as to key into the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in the sector.

“The government has provided sitting desks, as well as introduced feeding programme in Bayelsa schools,’’ he said.

Oboebitei said that from inception of the present administration, 500 primary school blocks and offices had been constructed across the state.

He said government had continuously paid for the WAEC, NECO, NABTEP and GCE examinations of its people since 2012 till date.

“The present government has established a new state polytechnic in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

“It also provided funds for accreditation of courses at the Niger Delta University (NDU), which the National University Commission (NUC) has already done,” he said. (NAN)
