Of the 17 candidates vying for the position of Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, three candidates have been shortlisted for the Federal Government to choose a substantive head soon.

The interview for the Rector position conducted by Rector Selection Committee of the Governing Council of the institution was led by Lasberry Amadi.

A competent source said that one Francisca Uloma Nwafulugo placed first in the interview, Christian Ezeudu was second while Chikadibia Michael Eni came third.

It added that names of three selected candidates had since been ratified by members of the Governing Council of the institution and forwarded to the Presidency to make final selection from the three candidates.

Nwafulugo, who placed first, is a female lecturer at the Kaduna Polytechnic, while Ezeudu and Eni who came second and third are male lecturers at Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

If the lady who clinched the top spot is picked, then it means that this will be the first time in the history of the Polytechnic Oko that a female would emerge as Rector.

The tenure is for a four-year tenure and renewable for another four.

A new rector will take over from Chris Izuchukwu Onu, the acting rector, who had been acting since March this year.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has been clamouring for an appointment of rectors for the institution.
