Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) ‎has introduced a new guideline in the registration of library science graduates across the country. ‎

Mrs Ngozi Oboh, the Director, LRCN in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, said qualified candidates would now be inducted at the point of graduation.

‎She said that the newly introduced induction process would take effect from the 2018/2019 academic session ‎.

‎Oboh said prior to now‎ qualified candidates who applied to the council and met its criteria were inducted into the council at a ceremony held once a year in Abuja.

‎She added that the inductees paid a fee of N25, 000 each.

‎”We have brought the registration of librarians closer to the graduates by going to schools to induct them like some professions do at the point of graduation.‎

“We expect a larger number of certified librarians in the country because we have taken the induction closer to the people.

‎ “The council will still do the general induction but this new method is to make more librarians registered with the council and save them the stress and financial implication of travelling to Abuja for the general one.

“At the end of the 2018/2019 academic session, we will start the induction at the point of graduation.

“We expect the departments of library science in various schools to send the names of qualified candidates to the council before the induction.”‎

‎Oboh, however, said that the council was still calling for qualified librarians to register with the council‎.

She said that the next general induction ceremony was scheduled to hold in November in Abuja. ‎

Oboh added that the council had so far registered ‎5,437 librarians. (NAN)
