THE United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on Tuesday advised the Federal Government to embrace global best practices in the science and technology sector to enhance growth.

Dr Osuji Otu, the National Programme Officer of Sciences of the organisation, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that Nigeria had entrepreneurs and companies with good products that needed support to enhance the finishing of their goods.

“The 2017 Science Expo was an eye opener as we were able to identify good Made-in-Nigeria products that we can upgrade for exports. The problem we have in Nigeria is that we have a lot of Made-in-Nigeria goods, but they lack value. The finishing remains a challenge,’’ Otu said.

According to him, some Made-in-Nigeria goods producers can be linked to places they will be trained with advanced equipment for better finishing of their products to meet international standard.

He expressed optimism that this year’s science expo would be better, adding that the assessment team which UNESCO was part of, would pay attention to details.

Otu also said that the country’s diverse raw materials had given it comparative advantages over many countries, adding that these advantages formed the right leverages for exportation of goods and services. (NAN)
