THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has recovered about N288 million from various cases in the Southwest Zone this year.
At a press conference held at its zonal office in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, the anti-graft agency also requested more collaboration and support from the media as well as other stakeholders in fighting the graft war.
The Deputy Zonal Head, Ibadan, Kazeem Oseni, who represented the Zonal Head, Akaninyene Ezima to host the journalists on behalf of the Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu commended the journalists for their support hitherto.
He then stated that “it is imperative for us to come together like this to bridge any information gap about the progress of the anti-graft war.”
He stressed further that the fight against graft is not a task that the commission could surmount single-handedly, the media particularly must collaborate more to make the fight a success.
“Let me use this opportunity to enjoin you all and sundry to buy into the fight against graft. We need the support of all stakeholders. The media, no doubt, needs to prop up this message by informing the public adequately about our activities and urge them to report cases of corruption to the EFCC promptly. We will not rest on our oars as we must win the fight together.”
Speaking further, he stressed that from March 2016 till date reported cases to the commission have increased from 200 to 431 out of which 195 arrests were made and 50 of the cases are ongoing in court.
According to him, investigations on the other cases are ongoing and will be charged to court promptly, as soon as they are concluded. – Channels TV
