THE Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, emphasised the crucial role of intentional facilities management in ensuring the safety of buildings and fostering a commitment to excellence among athletes.

Enoh, represented by Mohammed Rabiu, a Director in the Ministry of Sports, made this statement at Dr Samson Opaluwah’s book launch and 70th birthday celebration on Sunday in Abuja.

Opaluwah, Chairman of the Council of Registered Builders in Nigeria (CORBON), unveiled three books on facility management: “The Principles and Practice of Facilities Management in Nigeria,” “Health Facilities Management in Africa,” and “Sports Facilities Management in Africa.”

According to Enoh, these books shed light on the often-overlooked yet vital aspect of sports development and facilities management.

Enoh noted that proper management of sports facilities was essential for creating an environment where athletes could train, compete, and excel.

According to him, effective facilities management also promotes sports tourism, enhances community well-being, and provides a safe and conducive atmosphere for various activities.

Dr Theophilus Abbah, Programme Director of Dailytrust Foundation, commended Opaluwah’s expertise and contribution to the field of facilities management.

Abbah stated that Opaluwah’s books would inspire readers to prioritise intentional facilities management in their homes and offices.

Opaluwah shared his experience as a pioneer in modern facility management in Nigeria, having worked in cement manufacturing, hospital/healthcare, and sports facilities management.

He aimed to document his knowledge and provide valuable insights for colleagues and future professionals.

The books, Opaluwah said he believed the books would help address Nigeria’s reputation for poor maintenance culture.

He added that by studying, understanding, and applying the principles outlined in the books, individuals could make a positive impact on facilities management in the country.(NAN)
