Egypt condemns Israel’s decision to build new settlement units
Africa
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned Israel’s decision to build new settlements in the West Bank.
The Israeli authorities’ decision to offer tenders to construct 1,257 new settlement units is “a new violation of international legitimacy decisions and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions,’’ the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Such policies will lead to isolating East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surrounding area and could undermine the opportunities for a two-state resolution,’’ it said.
It added that the Israeli decision will hinder efforts of seeking to end the current stalemate of the Palestinian issue.
Israel’s government on Sunday promoted a plan for new settlement homes in Givat Hamatos, a settlement neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Givat Hamatos is located in some of the last lands connecting the Palestinian areas of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. (Xinhua/NAN)
