NIGERIAN Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed 600 personnel in Edo to ensure a crime-free Eid-El-Fitri celebration in the state.

Mr. Efosa Ogbebor, the state Command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Friday.

Ogbebor said that the action was also to ensure the safety of lives and property as well as ensure the free flow of traffic during the period.

He said that the personnel had been deployed to all identified flashpoints across the state.

The spokesman said that measures had been put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 within the period.

He emphasised that prayers at Eid grounds remain banned, while prayers to be held in Mosques should not have more than 20 persons in attendance.

Ogebor emphasised the need for all to adhere to measures by the government to curtail the spread of COVID-19 while urging residents of the state to be law-abiding.

The Federal Government had on Thursday declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to mark the 2020 Eid-el-Fitr celebration. (NAN)
