DR AbdulMuminu Isah, the Chief Imam of University of Nigeria Nsukka Central Mosque, has urged Muslims in the country to use the Eid-el-Maulud celebration to pray for peaceful general elections in 2023.

Isah said this in Nsukka on Saturday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on this year’s Eid-el-Maulud coming up on Oct. 10.

He said the celebration was in commemoration of the birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBH) whose life was characterised with humility, love,   peace and good neighbourliness.

“Muslims in the country should use the celebration to pray for the peaceful conduct of 2023 general elections.

“If the elections are peaceful and violence-free, the vote of every Nigerian will count and right candidates will emerge victorious.

“Nigerians should shun sentiments during  the elections by voting  best candidates, irrespective of their  tribe, religion or political affiliations,”he said.

He said a peaceful, free and fair election in 2023 would ensure smooth transition as well as earn the nation more respect globally.

The cleric also enjoined Muslims to emulate the humility and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad (PBH) who did the will of Allah throughout his life.

“We should in every condition emulate the humility and exemplary life of Muhammad by ensuring peaceful co-existence with our neighbours as well as being patriotic to our country.

“We must fear God in everything we do by using the wealth and gift God has given us to serve humanity.

“More importantly, we should remember that one day we will stand before God our creator, to give account of our stewardship on earth,” he said (NAN)
