Contrary to the media speculation that 30 Police commissioners will be deployed to supervise the gubernatorial election in Osun State on September 22, the police said only eight commissioners will be deployed.

The Nigerian Police Force in a statement signed by Jimoh Moshood, the spokesman of the Force, said that Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of Police, said that during a one day  Seminar on imperativeness of Police collaboration with essential stakeholders, held in Oshogbo, Osun State on  August 30, 2018, it was categorically stated that the eight area commands in Osun State will be manned by a commissioner of Police. The commissioners will supervise “security arrangements for the Osun State Gubernatorial Election and not a Commissioner of Police to a Local Government in the state as reported.”

Nevertheless, the Nigeria Police Force said it “will continue to hold the media in high esteem as a veritable partner in ensuring adequate security for all elections in the country, the force thereby implores the media to amend their records.”
