EKHA donates food items to indigents, GBV victims

EKITI State House of Assembly has donated food items to Erelu Adebayo motherless and the Gender Based Violence, (GBV) victims homes to complement the government’s efforts.
The Speaker, Mr Funminiyi Afuye led members to the Erelu Adebayo Motherless Home, Iyin-Ekiti and Ekiti State Transit Home, Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday to make the donations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that food items donated to these homes, include yams, rice and packs of Indomie among others.
Afuye said the gesture was the House’s contribution toward giving hope and sense of belonging to the “have not” in the society.
“We believe that rather than making our second anniversary a funfare, we should channel our resources to helping the poor ones in our state.
“Our coming here to identify with the vulnerable children and the poor, will afford us to contribute to their well-beings.
“In order to complement government’s efforts at making life easy for poor citizens, we assured you of our supports to making laws for the smooth running of the homes,’’ Afuye assured.
Corroborating the Speaker, his Deputy, Alhaji Hakeem Jamiu, said that the House was compassionate enough to help the children, women and poor ones in the state.
Responding, Matron of the Ekiti Transit Home, Mrs Bolanle Asubiojo said that the homes housed the poorest of the poor, GBV victims, children and girls rescue from trafficking.
Asubiojo added that they would be rehabilitated and reunited with family members after acquiring vocational skills.
She thanked the lawmakers for the donation.
Also, the Coordinator of the Adebayo Motherless Home, Iyin-Ekiti, Mrs Olayinka Ajayi appreciated the lawmakers for associating with the motherless children in Ekiti State.
