Ekiti Assembly felicitates 26th Anniversary of state creation

THE Ekiti House of Assembly has congratulated the people of Ekiti on the 26 years creation of the state.

Mrs Yemisi Ayokunle, the Ekiti State Assembly House Chairman on Committee on Media and Publicity, gave a congratulatory message to the people of the state  on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti, to mark the 26 years of the state’s creation.

Ayokunle also said the Assembly felicitated with Nigerians as Nigeria celebrated her 62 years of Independence anniversary on Saturday, having gained independence from the United Kingdom on  Oct.1, 1960.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekiti State, a state in Southwest Nigeria, was created on October 1, 1996 alongside five other states by the then military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Ekiti State was created from the old Ondo State.

According to Ayokunle, the Assembly implores  Ekiti people to keep hope alive, assuring that efforts at returning the country to her rightful place in the commit of nations are yielding positive results.

She commended the founding leaders of Ekiti and those saddled with the responsibility of leading the state in the last 26 years.

She prayed that history would have appropriate places for them for future reference.

The chairman also said that Gov. Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the last four years had recorded significant improvement in the areas of infrastructure, education, food production and economy among others.

On the part of the Assembly, she said the lawmakers had been part of the history made and that their contributions  especially in the last four years were well documented.

“We thank God for our Country and particularly, our state. We shall continue to strive to make this place that God has given us a better place to habitat,’’ Ayokunle said.

She, therefore, called on Ekiti people to keep praying for the outgoing governor and the incoming governor-  Mr Abiodun Oyebanji, and their families for God’s guidance.

Ayokunle  also said that “as the various leaders were striving to improve the lot of `our dear state’ we must always pray for God’s directions, so that the dream of good governance in Ekiti, we are currently enjoying will not be short-lived.” (NAN)
