Ekiti committed to tackling open defecation – Fayemi

GOV. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Wednesday reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling open defecation.
Fayemi made this known at a meeting of Water Hygiene Sector Wide Approach (WASH-Swap) programme and stakeholders drawn from Ministries, Department and Agencies,(MDAs) in Ado-Ekiti.
The governor, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mr Abiodun Oyebanji, gave an assurance that the state would continue to collaborate with development partners toward transforming the state.
“We assure WASH-Swap of government’s commitment to work together with them to achieve their mandate.
“My administration will stop at nothing to ensure that the state becomes open defecation free, as it stands to gain more from the feat,’’Fayemi said.
He commended the efforts of European Union and United Nation International Children’s Education Fund in working toward sustainability of the projects and thanked them for including Ekiti among beneficiaries.
Earlier, Dr Roy Egba, a Consultant on WASH, said that the EU and UNICEF desired to collaborate with the state government to improve its economy.
Egba said the meeting was meant to build a framework that would help harness resources to deliver on water, sanitation and hygiene across the state.
He reiterated commitment to support opportunities for job creation, especially for the youths.
In his remarks, Mr Bamidele Faparusi, Ekiti Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities expressed appreciation to Fayemi for making the water sector viable in the state.(NAN)
