THE Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) says it has started evaluation of its performance at the just-concluded Ekiti gubernatorial election to restrategise to come out stronger in the 2019 General Elections.

The National Spokesman for the party, Mr Sesugh Akume, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the party accepted the results of the poll.

NAN reports that Dr Kayode Fayemi of the APC won the election, securing 197,459 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Prof. Kalapo Olusola of the PDP, who polled 178,121 votes.

”The Party is already conducting a postmortem of her performance at the poll. It shall return to the drawing board to restrategise, apply lessons learned and come out stronger.

”ANRP boldly restates her commitment to building a genuine grassroots political movement that thrives on openness and transparency, sound ideas, open debate, values, principles and patriotism, as well as inclusion of all.

”It is a party for the present and the future. The party understands that salvaging Nigeria is not a sprint but a marathon.

”The party is in this patriotic endeavour for the long haul. We remain committed to staying true to our cause,” he said.

Akume told NAN that ANRP, with 125 votes, emerged  17th out of the  35 governorship candidates representing 35 political parties in the Saturday Ekiti governorship election.

”I thank and congratulate the 125 people who braved all odds and voted for us. We did better than some older parties.

”We know the issues. We know our own internal issues and lessons that we have learnt. We know it will be better next time,” he said

He said that ANRP applauded the sacrifices and patriotism of its members, particularly the governorship and deputy governorship candidates – Messrs Tunde Afe and Kazeem Sanusi, respectively.

”None of these sacrifices shall be in vain.

”ANRP, however, expresses displeasure at the high level of thuggery and intimidation that characterised the election.

”What the world witnessed was ‘cash-for-votes’ exercise,” he claimed.

Akume hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission “which tried hard to a conduct peaceful and transparent election’.

He congratulated Fayemi and wished him the best.

”ANRP restates her commitment to working with the administration in offering ideas and making other input as may be required.

”We wish our dear country healing, reconciliation and progress, especially Ekiti State,” he said. (NAN)
