THE Ekiti Speaker, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, has decried the killing of two traditional rulers and reported abduction of some school children in the state.
The Oba of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsakin were killed in an ambush by armed men around Oke- Ako in Ikole Local Government Area while returning from a meeting on Monday afternoon.
Another traditional ruler, the Alara of Ara –Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, who was also in the vehicle, however, escaped from their abductors.
Similarly, a yet to be ascertained number of pupils of a nursery and primary school in Emure Local Government area, Ekiti, were also reportedly abducted on Monday afternoon.
Reacting to the two incidents in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti by Mr Babajide Agbeyo, his media adviser, the Speaker described the developments as cruel and worrisome.
Aribasoye said it was saddening that some agents of darkness have resolved to disrupt the peace in the state and create undue fear and tension.
He said that although Ikole Local Government axis had been a flashpoint of sort when kidnapping and herders invasions were rife in the state, the menace seemed to have subsided significantly until this fresh occurrences.
“This twin ugly incident is a siege. This looks to me a plot to unsettle this peaceful state. This will not stand , God will intervene and the law will prevail, this I’m sure of” Aribasoye asserted.
He sympathized with the affected towns where the Obas were killed and parents of the abducted pupils.
The speaker described the murder of the traditional rulers as painful, adding that the Oba of Esun-Ekiti, which is part of his constituency, was very close to him.
Aribasoye lamented the mindless killing of an intelligent king like Onimojo who, though from Oye Local Government, he said always offered him wise counsel on issues.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has called for an emergency plenary of the house of assembly to hold on Wednesday to address the current developments.
Aribasoye had three months ago visited the police commissioner in the state and top on the list of issues discussed was security of citizens. (NAN)
