THE National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) has commended the patriotic zeal of Nigeria’s senior citizens for participating fully in the just concluded 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

The commendation is contained in a statement on Sunday made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the NSCC’s Head of Media Mr Omini Oden, in Abuja.

The statement quoted the Director-General of the Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro, who commended the elders for exhibiting a high sense of patriotism by participating en masse in the polling for the Presidential and National Assembly held across the country.

”We, therefore, with utmost gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) across all polling units for providing enabling environment and the treatment accorded the aged and PWDs, while carrying out their civic responsibility,” she said.

She described the act as pleasant and a result of the NSCC’s awareness campaigns and existing partnerships to mobilise senior citizens support networks for inclusitivity.

She expressed optimism that the centre looked forward to finalising an Expert Group Research and Drafting Assessment of a National Age Watch Index in Nigeria.

According to the D-G, the project will produce sector by sector indicators of age-friendly services, rank sector players and present age-friendly services winners with awards.

Omokaro appealed to the electorate to be patient and remain law abiding, while awaiting the announcement of the outcome of the election by the umpire.

She also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for keeping to its promise of inclusivity
