Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa on Monday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or peace accord toward ensuring peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections in the state.
Bindow, shortly after signing the document at the Independent National Election Commission’s (INEC) office in Yola, urged youths to avoid violence during and after the general elections.
The governor also advised politicians to go by the rules, saying “I need peace more than anyone here because without peace, there will be no politicking.
“I want to use this medium to advise politicians to play by the rules of the game.
“I also appeal to supporters and youths not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians to cause trouble during and after elections,’’ he said.
Bindow assured the people of Adamawa Northern zone of adequate provision of security during the forthcoming elections.
According to him, we are collaborating with security agencies and INEC to ensure that the insurgency affected communities participate in the general elections.
The governor called on the people of the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards as INEC had already dispatched PVCs to various local governments and wards.
NAN reports that the governor signed the document in the presence of the Mr Kashim Gaidam, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Adamawa and the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa Command, CP Ibrahim Umar. (NAN)
