THE Commissioner of Police on election security in Kogi, Mr Yekini Ayoku has urged the people of Kogi to shun anyone who would instigate them to violence because of election results.

Ayoku gave the advice on Tuesday in Lokoja in a statement issued by the Police Command image maker, SP Williams Ovye-Aya.

He said people of the state had demonstrated peaceful conduct during the presidential and national assembly elections, as such should not allow themselves to be used by anybody to foment trouble.

“While I commend you all for your peaceful conduct and participation in the Presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday, I wish to strongly warn against any violent protest in the state.

“For conducting yourselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the just concluded election, it speaks volume of how good and peaceful Kogi people are.

“You should therefore go about your lawful businesses and shun all forms of instigation or rancorous reactions that may arise from the result of the election,” he added.

He advised that anyone with any complaint regarding the conduct of the elections should go through lawful channels to seek redress.

Ayogu said this was necessary to maintain the existing peaceful environment in the state.

The police commissioner warned that those planning to take the law into their hands would be dealt with decisively by the police and other security agencies.

He said that the security agencies would not allow anyone to disrupt the existing peace the state was enjoying.

Ayoku urged all security operatives to maintain existing synergy towards peaceful governorship and state assembly elections on March 11.
