SECURITY agencies in Ondo State have said no fewer than 7,000 personnel would be deployed to monitor the forthcoming Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections across the state.

The security agencies made this known while speaking with newsmen at a joint news conference held on Tuesday at the Police Officers Mess in Akure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Brigadier Commander of 32 Artillery Brigade, Immigration, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), NSCDC, FRSC, DSS, Customs, among others, were present at the news conference.

While speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, said that the deployment was part of how security agencies would ensure that the election was free, fair, transparent and credible in the state.

Oyediran said that all heads of security agencies had synergies for the betterment of the forthcoming election.

He called on the public to shun any form of thuggery or vices during and after the election or face the wrath of the law.

The CP also explained that the command had not arrested or prosecuted any campaign offenders, saying he had ensured that two political parties did not hold any campaign on the same day across the state.

According to him, all the security agencies are ready for the forthcoming election and it is going to be a successful and peaceful one.

“All the relevant agencies in connection to the forthcoming presidential election have been synergised for the free conduct of the election.

“We are here to assure the public that we are ready as ever for the success of the forthcoming election and the public should rest assured that the election will be peaceful.

“Also thuggery will not be allowed and other vices equally associated with it will not be allowed,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the public, especially political parties, to join hands with the security agencies to ensure that the election was violence-free during and after the elections in the state.

Also speaking, Olufunmilayo Bosede, Comptroller of Immigration in Ondo State, said the command had recovered three voter’s card and one National Identity Card from some non-Nigerians.

“We had an interaction with non-indigenes about two weeks ago during a sensitisation on why they should not have Personal Voter’s Card (PVC). Out of 11, we were able to recover three voters card and one National Identity Card. (NAN)
