PRESIDENTIAL candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mr Yabagi Sani, has urged the electorate and international community to be on the alert during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Sani made the call in a statement signed by Mr Pam Ibrahim, Director Media and Publicity, YYSani Campaign Council, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He expressed shock over statements credited to All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, giving order to security agencies to deal ruthlessly with ballot box snatchers during the coming rescheduled elections.

Sani recalled that the president gave the shoot-at-sight directive during APC’s caucus meeting in Abuja on Monday.

“Buhari’s declaration on Monday is at variance with the Electoral Act which stipulates sanctions for ballot box-snatching and at no time did the law say that offenders should pay with their lives as Buhari posited.

“The directive is against the constitutional guarantee of the right to life.

“The deprivation of life can only be done in accordance with the order of a court of competent jurisdiction or in certain circumstances where legitimate use of force may be applied to protect life and property.

“Buhari’s directive does not fall within these categories and therefore is an illegal order.

“This type of blanket order to kill is appalling and should never come from any civilised leader.

“We, therefore, advise Buhari to withdraw that order and apologise to Nigerians,’’ he said.

The presidential candidate also condemned the obscene use of money by Atiku Abubakar, who according to him, is criminalising and compromising the electoral process and voters.

“We in ADP condemn this dangerous statement and the brazen manner by which Atiku is using money to subvert our democracy.

“We have on good intelligence that the cabal intends to use partisan security agents to cause mayhem in the event that the ruling party begins to fail in the polls.

“We call on Nigerians and the international community to be alert about these plots to truncate our democracy by some political parties.

“We also call on Nigerians and the international community to warn these political parties to desist from their plots and hold them responsible if their plans to truncate the electoral process lead to crisis,’` he said.

“The ADP wishes to task Nigerians not to be intimidated by the desperate undemocratic measures of some parties but to come out in large numbers and vote for its candidate on Saturday.

“Sani is equipped with knowledge, experience, education and integrity to provide the credible alternative government to APC and restore the years of the locusts of the PDP,’’ he said. (NAN)
