Elections: INEC begins distribution of sensitive materials in Gombe

THE Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) in Gombe state, has begun distribution of sensitive materials in its 11 Local Government Areas ahead of Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly.

Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Wednesday that the distribution of the materials was in line with directives from INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Ibrahim, who spoke through the commission’s spokesman, Mr Mohorret Bigun, said that the distribution of the materials would ensure that voting commenced on time on election day.

He said that the sensitive materials released for distribution were ballot papers and result sheets.

According to him, Smart Card Readers have already been distributed across the 11 local government areas of the state.

Ibrahim assured people of the state that some of the lapses experienced during the Presidential and National Assembly elections would not happen recur during the March 9 elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the materials were distributed in the presence of officers and men of security agencies and representatives of the various political parties participating in the elections. (NAN)
