Electrician docked for allegedly stealing Airtel cables

A 39-year-old electrician, Chijioke Umeh, on Friday appeared before a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing Airtel Nigeria telecommunication cables.
Umeh, who resides behind Karu Market, Abuja, is charged with conspiracy, criminal trespass, theft and mischief.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on Sept. 20.
He said that Umeh and the others vandalised an Airtel Nigeria mast located at Karu Extension.
Osho said that the defendant and his accomplices stole armoured solar cables, generator cables and
a generator battery, all worth N150, 000,” he said.
Osho said that the police recovered instruments used to commit the crime during investigation.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 348, 288 and 334 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N800, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that one of the sureties must have a chieftaincy title.
The judge said that each surety should provide a valid identity card and a bank account statement.
Maiwada adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for hearing. (NAN)
