BENJAMIN Okezie Kalu, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, , has assured Nigerians that the Green Chamber will debate the recent hike in electricity tariffs upon the resumption of plenary.

Kalu gave the assurance recently, during a virtual appearance on a special edition of “Ben Kalu’s Mandate,” a call-in radio programme on FLO FM, Umuahia, Abia State. The Deputy Speaker also stated that the parliament would adopt a win-win approach in resolving the issues surrounding the tariff hike, which has generated widespread outcry and concerns about its impact on the country’s economy.

“We are committed to engaging with stakeholders and finding solutions that promote national development and welfare,” the Deputy Speaker stressed.

In response to a listener’s inquiry about the National Assembly giving Nigerians a constitution that is acceptable to all, Rt. Hon. Kalu emphasised the importance of the people’s input in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).

“The Deputy Speaker’s proactive stance on the electricity tariff hike and the constitution review demonstrates the House’s dedication to serving the interests of the Nigerian people,” his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu notes.

It is noteworthy that the Deputy Speaker’s statements underscore the commitment of the Tenth House of Representatives towards addressing key issues that affect Nigerians and finding solutions that benefit all stakeholders, according to a statement by Akin Rotimi Jr. House spokesman and chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
