THE Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC,  Ayodele Kumapayi, has urged road users to beware of critical traffic infractions capable of causing accidents and preventable deaths on the road.

Kumapayi made the call at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia on Sunday, November 8, 2020.

He said that people were always in a hurry during ’ember months, noting that there were minor offences that needed to be checked by motorists to avoid road mishaps.

Kumakpayi also directed vehicle users to ensure that their vehicles were road worthy along with their vehicle documents, especially the driver’s licence were intact.

While noting that only the living can celebrate, the commander enjoined them to always obey the speed limit by installing the speed limiting device in their vehicles; always ensure that vehicle tyres were not worn out.

He admonished those using fairly used tyres to desist from doing so, cautioning commercial vehicle drivers to stop overloading their vehicles, even as he cautioned against the consumption of alcoholic drinks and making phone calls while driving.

“Always fasten your seatbelts; ensure that your vehicles are functional without installing extra headlights; desist from driving against traffic, and be patient while driving.’’

The sector commander decried night travels explaining, “it is three times more dangerous than travelling during the day’’.

He implored traders to stop displaying their wares on the roads to avoid preventable deaths, emphasising that everyone has a role to play.

Earlier during a homily, the Parish Vicar, Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Obiekezie, advised Christians to stay awake and stand ready as they did not know the hour that the Son of Man would come.

“Love with wisdom; seek it and it will benefit you in this life and life thereafter.

Obiekezie enjoined all to seek spiritual resources with beneficial effects and not worldly wisdom with harmful effects.

He, then, prayed God to pour forth His Spirit so that the Grace with Integrity may endure.
