THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jigawa Sector Command, said it has taken its 2020 free vehicle safety checks to motor parks across the state.

The state’s FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Solomon Agure, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.

Agure said that the exercise was part of the corps’ measures for checking the safety of vehicles during the 2020 Ember months campaign with the theme: “Drive Safe, Stay Safe”.

He explained that the four-day-exercise which started on Sept. 3, was being conducted in all motor parks in the 27 local government areas of the state.

The sector commander added that the exercise, which was fine-free, was designed to advise drivers on how to keep their vehicles safe on the road.

“As part of FRSC measures for checking the safety of vehicles, the Jigawa command has embarked on free vehicle checks in all the motor parks across the state.

“The exercise is designed to check the list of defects associated with safety matters and advised motorists to correct them.

“It is an initiative of the corps to give drivers the opportunities to fix their vehicles without penalty.

“The reason why we decided to take the campaign to motor parks is that we want to get more vehicles checked.

“This is because if we stay on the roads to stop vehicles and check them, some drivers may refuse to stop for the check or divert thinking that the FRSC will book them.

“So what we usually do is write out all the defects discovered from a vehicle and give them to drivers to correct them.”

According to him, the command will extend the gesture to the Federal Secretariat in the state, as well as other organisations in order to check private vehicles.

Agure, therefore, advised drivers to take advantage of the exercise by carrying out regular checks on their vehicles. (NAN)
